For current Cheboygan County jail questions, start with the sheriff's office and jail at the county building. Sheriff Todd Ross is the elected sheriff, and the same main phone is used for the sheriff's office and jail information line. The official sheriff page lists the lobby as open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for some public law-enforcement services. Ordinary record requests still follow the office's FOIA process and response rules.

Courts and Prosecutor

Court records and jail records are different. The jail can address local custody and booking questions, while filed charges, hearings, and case status belong with the courts. The 89th District Court handles many criminal matters at the district level, and the prosecutor's office handles charging and prosecution functions.
